American Graduate: Let's Make it Happen

KBTC is excited to be an American Graduate station, helping to raise awareness of graduation rates in our neighborhoods, and helping us prepare every child for graduation and the career of their choosing.

Find out more about  our local American Graduate initiative below, visit our website or follow us on social media using #AmGradWa.

An American Graduate Champion commits their time, skills and resources to make sure that young people succeed. He or she is an individual who plays an active role in improving educational outcomes for students. A champion is a parent who is active in the lives of young people or a volunteer who creates a positive environment daily for youth in their community.

The PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs program connects middle and high school students to local PBS stations and news professionals in their community to produce original, student-generated video reports. Locally, KBTC is working with School Of The Arts in Tacoma to teach students the ropes when it comes to local production.

The annual, day-long, multi platform broadcast event focuses on organizations and individual Champions keeping kids on the path to graduation. KBTC produces local pieces to include in the broadcast, each highlighting someone that is making a difference in the lives of children. Partners include Boys and Girls Club of South Puget Sound, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound, Project Child Success, and many others.
