Developed with an advisory panel of top marine biologists, digital innovators and educators, Splash is grounded in a marine biology curriculum that focuses on themes of diversity, individuality, interconnectedness and the celebration of learning and discovery. The series also introduces the concepts of ecological balance and the importance of taking care of the ocean.
Last month, I had a chance to interview the creatives behind Splash and Bubbles at The Jim Henson Company’s Digital Puppetry Studio that included John Tartaglia, the mastermind behind the idea and show. He shared with us how the idea came about on a snorkeling trip several years ago. While observing an array of beautiful underwater sea life he said he started thinking about what if they were a community of friends and family. From that concept, he developed the Off Broadway stage show Imaginocean Musical which went on to win several awards.
Fast forward a couple years and he contacted Halle Stanford, head of children's programming at The Jim Henson Company's Digital Pupperty Studio and she loved the idea of creating this story into a series and pitched the idea to Ms. Lisa Henson. She loved the idea as well and today children across the country can enjoy watching Splash and Bubbles and their pals on PBS Kids. Splash and Bubbles is such a wonderful way to introduce children about marine biology and get them excited about our planet's oceans.
Be sure to stop by this Sunday at the Foss Waterway Seaport and see an special screening of Splash and Bubbles "One Big Ocean" and explore the museum for FREE during this one-of-a-kind event.
