Summer is the best time to be outdoors. So this summer, we decided to take our Paint to Learn programming outside of the classroom and into Tacoma's beautiful parks through an innovative partnership with Metro Parks Tacoma.
The Paint in the Park activities bring kids, parents, friends, neighbors and community members together to learn about STEAM through creative play. (STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math!)
These activities offer opportunities for creative expression and exploration while engaging families and community members in a joyful and collaborative environment. By bringing our painting activities outside, we are not only able to bring opportunities for learning into new spaces and new communities, but we can draw inspiration from the surrounding natural landscape of our city's parks, and even get a little bit of vitamin D while we are at it!
Paint in the Park is the latest in our Paint to Learn collaborative with Tacoma Public Schools, Pierce County Library System, Project Child Success, Child Care Resources and the Boeing Foundation. This project features a visual arts-based STEAM curriculum, and acts as a platform for community engagement through inter-generational relationship-building, social emotional learning opportunities, and creative thinking and problem solving. Together we have held Paint to Learn events in Tacoma Public Schools elementary schools, community centers and now we have expanded to 6 parks!
Keep a look out for a Paint to Learn event at your school or out in your community.
