Intern Experience with KBTC Kids!
Hello, my name is Angela Sanchez I’m 16 and a Junior at Science and Math Institute (SAMI) and I am interning with KBTC. I love to draw and to be creative so being here opens an opportunity for me to learn about someone I could be in the future. Having the opportunity to intern is a great experience for me to have a chance to communicate and observe the workplace environment.
KBTC is a public broadcasting service with a mission that “engages viewers, communities, and supporters by delivering media experiences that educate, inspire, and entertain”. I hope that I can make a big difference interning here and use my time well.
So far, I have helped my supervisor Alyssa Torrez with small duties like organizing photos and creating new ideas for curriculum and activities for their program “Paint to Learn” that teaches children learn essential skills that they need to learn for school.
When I went to a paint night event at Whitman Elementary School it was so fun! At first you choose a shape you want to paint on your canvas with colors provided to you. Then you use your creativity to use that shape and turn it into anything you would like! I saw kids that painted about sports or a jellyfish. I took a picture of a girls' painting of a heart with things she loved to do. She didn’t finish it but she loved to sing and told me she was in choir. I painted a heart at first
but then had no idea what to do next so I drew flowers and the sun, representing my love for nature.
Continuing forward, I feel like this environment taught me things that I don’t normally use at school like professionalism and responsibility. I am looking forward to enhancing my skills for my future.
